Well, to tell the story of a girl (woman) who has a cyst…. Tarlov Cysts
I want to raise awareness for a disease that is out there, but doctors and radiologists think is asymptomatic. I will try to find humor about my journey and share what I have learned in a fun way. Too many concentrate on the negative; with the chronic “pain” I would have lost this battle of putting my best foot forward. Also, remember I am not a doctor and some doctors will be mad at me for doing this blog. To protect myself, I claim to only have an intimate relationship with this disease, not a PHD. What works for me may not work for you.
For those that do not know me…. it all started….. Not really, the cyst starts either with trauma or, better yet, the real reason is not known. For me, just finding out I had a Tarlov Cyst was trying. For a few years now, sitting on hard surfaces caused the legs to go numb and a little “old age” discomfort. I am kind-of short and most chairs are not made for me. So I just thought that this was the cause. Also, doing sweeping with a broom, using a shovel, and so forth became something that would make me feel like I was never going to straighten up.
For the last few winters we had ice on the deck and I would get out there and shovel it off, toss it over the railing, and each time I would be so sore for days after, even wondering if I would ever straighten to a vertical position. Two winters ago I did it again and could not get over the lower back ache. So, like everyone else out there I go to the doctor, and my journey began.
As you read my blog you will get the feel for my personality. I also want you to know that I have not decided whether to alert you to the doctors out there that profess to do work on Tarlov Cysts. I will include what I have experienced and what I thought was a balm and a bomb.
